Bayngga Underground Oven

Watch as a deep pit is lined with native ginger and lemon myrtle leaves before hot volcanic rocks are added to cook a variety of meats and vegetables in an underground oven. The bayngga was traditionally used by Aboriginal people to cook food for ceremonial purposes and celebrations.

Night Fire

Nightfire is Tjapukai’s evening experience meeting the Bama, the Indigenous rainforest people, who paint your face to link you to their traditional land and take you on a mesmerising journey with the haunting sounds of the didgeridoo. Follow the Tjapukai warriors to a corroboree celebrating Aboriginal Dreamtime stories and join the Rainbow Serpent circle to learn traditional language songs before the ceremonial fire is lit with a spectacular fire ball shooting towards the stars.
